The Colombo Central Division Criminal Investigation Bureau has succeeded in arresting two brothers with a large-scale drug consignment worth nearly 140 million rupees. Police investigations have revealed that this drug trafficking operation was carried out very subtly by obtaining luxury hotel rooms and houses on high rent.
From the possession of the suspects thus arrested, 1 kg and 56 grams of cocaine, 1 kg and 212 grams of heroin, and 4 kg and 116 grams of 'Ice' (crystal methamphetamine) have been found. It is suspected that this operation has been ongoing for a long time. The police confirm that these suspects, residents of Ragama Kadawatha Road and Moratuwa Moratuwella areas, are aged 43 and 48.
This operation was launched based on a confidential tip received by Chief Police Inspector A.M.S.P.B. Attanayake, the OIC of the Colombo Central Division Criminal Investigation Bureau. Accordingly, a rented luxury house located on W.A. de Silva Mawatha, Wellawatte, Colombo 06, was raided, and upon arresting and searching a person who was there, investigating officers were able to find 116 grams of heroin in his possession.
Based on information revealed during extensive questioning of the arrested suspect, the investigation team was directed to the Dalupitiya area in Kadawatha. There, the elder brother of the suspect, who was staying at a hotel on Mihindu Mawatha, Dalupitiya, was arrested, and the main drug consignment, consisting of cocaine, 'Ice', and heroin, was found in his possession.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that these two suspects, instead of staying in their permanent residences, operated the drug distribution network by renting luxury hotels and houses. To identify the mastermind behind this drug trafficking operation and to locate other individuals connected to the network, a seven-day detention order has been obtained after presenting the suspects to the court.
Under the instructions of the OIC of the Colombo Central Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, a police team including Sub-Inspector Kalindu is conducting further investigations into this incident.
