A car collides with a train at Kosgoda

Yesterday (April 27) evening, three people were seriously injured in a severe accident at the railway crossing near the Piyamaga sawmill in Kosgoda. The accident occurred around 4:30 PM when a car collided with a train traveling from Beliatta to Colombo.





Among those admitted to Balapitiya Base Hospital after the accident were Mr. Kasun Dhanushka de Silva, 38, a resident of Welithara, Balapitiya, who was driving the car, his 11-year-old son, and Mrs. Pushpa Premalatha de Silva, 59, a resident of Mahapitiya, Kosgoda.




However, a spokesperson for Balapitiya Base Hospital stated that Mr. Kasun Dhanushka de Silva (38), the driver of the car who was in critical condition after the accident, was transferred to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle for further treatment yesterday (April 28) morning.

Kosgoda Police's preliminary investigations have revealed that the accident occurred because the car was driven disregarding the color signals installed for the railway crossing. A team of officers, including Chief Police Inspector Chaminda Silva, the OIC of the Traffic Division of Kosgoda Police, and Police Constable Eranda (70810), are conducting further investigations into the incident.
