Police investigations have revealed that a group of high-profile criminals detained at Boossa High-Security Prison completely destroyed 63 security cameras (CCTV) installed in the prison before assaulting the prison superintendent. Ratgama Police state that the suspects caused this damage by attacking the camera system using brooms, poles, and stones.
According to the police, the immediate cause of this clash was the wedding of the organized criminal 'Piyum Hasthika', who is detained in the prison. Although his marriage was registered within the prison with proper authorization, the prisoners became enraged and behaved riotously after the prison superintendent rejected their request to hold a party for the officials and other inmates.
The assault occurred on the 7th when the prison superintendent went to the relevant location to inspect the inmates who had come out of their cells during lunch distribution.
As a result of the assault by two inmates, the prison superintendent sustained injuries to his face and nose. Investigations have revealed that in addition to the wedding party issue, an attempt to transfer inmates from the special section to other cells where security cameras were actively functioning also contributed to this assault. Ratgama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
