
Due to the derailment of a train near Ditwa Kuda Oya, the railway line was obstructed, and it was reported that more than 45 million rupees out of the 150 million rupees previously collected from seat reservations were paid today (23).
Secretary of the Railway Station Masters' Union, Mr. Kasun Chamara Jayasekara, stated that these payments are not made from the Kandy and Maradana railway stations, but from several other railway stations. He further stated that a large number of train seats have been reserved for travel to Udara, and that currently, the Udara train does not complete its journey from Kandy to Badulla.
According to the information received by the Secretary, only Rs. 39,458,175 has been paid from Kandy railway station, while Rs. 6,170,375 has been paid from Maradana railway station.
Generally, train seat reservations are made more than a month in advance. Accordingly, the Railway Department has received an income of 150 million rupees from seat reservations made during the period from the 27th of last month to the 27th. The process of refunding these funds began on December 1st. To obtain a refund, it is mandatory to submit the entry ticket, the national identity card of the person who reserved the seat, or the passport at the relevant railway station.
