Kinniya Town Submerged After Mavil Aru Sluice Breach - 121 Rescued

 A large-scale operation is underway to rescue people trapped by floodwaters following the breach of the Mavil Aru tank bund.
Four helicopters have been deployed to the area,
and according to information released by the Presidential Media Division, relief teams have so far successfully rescued 121 individuals through ongoing aerial operations.



Kinniya town is currently completely submerged, and it is reported that some individuals are stranded on trees due to rising water levels. The Navy has launched a special operation to rescue them urgently.

It was also revealed during a discussion on the disaster situation that security forces had taken steps to evacuate residents from the Muttur and Neelapola areas last night (29).




Residents from the severely flood-affected areas of Somapura, Sirimangalapura, Kallar, and Dehiwatta have been airlifted to Serunuwara Navodya School, and arrangements have been made to temporarily house them at the Seruwawila Rajamaha Viharaya for further safety.

Meanwhile, the Maha Sangha has informed the President by phone that approximately one thousand people in Thangavelly village are affected by the disaster and requested immediate action for their rescue.
