The wedding ceremony of Mr. Jeevan Thondaman, General Secretary of the Ceylon Workers' Congress and Nuwara Eliya District Member of Parliament, was recently held in India with great splendor. He entered married life with Miss Seethayi Sri Nachiyar Rameshvaran, a young woman of South Indian origin.
This wedding ceremony was held on November 23rd at the Arumugam Pillai Seethaammal College grounds in Tiruppathur, Sivaganga District, Tamil Nadu State, India. A notable aspect of this special occasion was the attendance of a distinguished group from Sri Lanka's political sphere, including former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe.
The bride, Seethayi Sri Nachiyar Rameshvaran, born in 2002 at John Hospital in Karaikudi, India, is a member of a renowned business family in South India.
The daughter of N. Rameshvaran and Priya Rameshvaran, she is currently pursuing medical education at a university in Ireland with the aspiration of becoming a doctor.
Her paternal grandfather, the late N.T.S. Arumugam Pillai, migrated from India to Malaysia during the British colonial era and made a name for himself as a successful businessman. He invested in real estate, coconut and rubber plantations in Malaysia, and tea plantations in India. In 1965, he established a school for children facing economic difficulties in his hometown of Tiruppathur, which has since grown into the Arumugam Pillai Seethaammal University. Seethayi's father, Mr. N. Rameshvaran, currently serves as the Secretary of that institution.
The friendship between the Thondaman and Rameshvaran families spans several generations. In particular, the strong friendship between Jeevan Thondaman's paternal grandfather, Saumyamoorthy Thondaman, and the bride's paternal grandfather, Arumugam Pillai, formed the foundation for this bond. Furthermore, it is a fated coincidence that the fathers of the bridal couple, Arumugam Thondaman and N. Rameshvaran, were also close friends who received their primary education in the same class at Montfort Boys' School in Tamil Nadu.
Due to these long-standing family ties and the friendship between their fathers, the marriage between Jeevan and Seethayi was arranged. A special ceremony to celebrate the wedding of the new couple is scheduled to be held this coming Friday, November 28th, at a leading hotel in Colombo.
This event is planned to be held with great grandeur, and it is said that all current and former political leaders are expected to attend. A collection of photos from the wedding ceremony held on the 23rd is below
