Police have arrested a woman who behaved disruptively inside the Nittambuwa Police Station, claiming that the police had no legal right to detain a warrantee held in the Nittambuwa police cell. Nittambuwa Police state that the arrested individual is a nursing assistant attached to the Gampaha Medical Officer of Health (MOH) office.
The incident was triggered by the arrest of a suspect, for whom a warrant had been issued due to evading court, by the police around 11:00 PM on the 23rd.
The arrested suspect was held in the Nittambuwa police cell until being produced in court, and at that time, the woman, who is a relative of the suspect, came to the police station to see him.
It is reported that she verbally abused police officers, claiming that the police had no right to detain the warrantee in the cell. She was arrested for behaving disruptively inside the police station and obstructing officers from performing their duties. The arrested suspect was scheduled to be produced before the court, and Nittambuwa Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
