Deadly Landslides Strike: 5 Dead, 12 Missing in Hasalaka; Row of Houses Buried in Bulathkohupitiya

 Five people have died and over 12 others are reported missing due to a sudden landslide that occurred in the Pamunupura area of Minipé, Hasalaka.

Commenting on the disaster, Kandy District Secretary Indika Uduwatta stated that special operations are currently underway to search for the missing individuals.

It was also reported that some bodies were recovered from swamps.

Meanwhile, information has been received that a row of houses located in the Dedugala area of Bulathkohupitiya has also been affected by a landslide. District Secretary J.M. Herath stated that approximately five houses are reported to be buried under the earth mounds due to this incident.

The District Secretary further emphasized that the people who were in those houses are also missing following this landslide, and reaching the site to rescue the victims has become extremely difficult due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions and the terrain.
