The Leak That Nearly Cost Lives

Sri Lanka’s police are in turmoil after revelations that senior officers may have tipped off underworld boss Kehelbaddara Padme about a covert international manhunt. What began as a daring chase to Jakarta has now morphed into a scandalous whodunnit.

The Jakarta Gamble

ASPs Rohan Olugala and Mahinda Jayasundara weren’t on holiday. They spent days on foreign roads, moving discreetly across Indonesia, chasing whispers of Padme’s whereabouts. Every checkpoint, every tail light in the rear-view mirror carried a risk — because if Padme’s hitmen had been activated, the two officers could easily have lost their lives before reaching their target.

This wasn’t just a manhunt. It was a gamble with death.

A Ghost in the Ranks

Yet, according to Dubai-based underworld insider Dharun, Padme knew they were coming. He claims senior police officers in Colombo themselves tipped off the gangster, warning him that Olugala and Jayasundara were in pursuit.

The warning allowed Padme to abandon his luxury Jakarta apartment and vanish into the shadows, buying him precious hours. Eventually, the law caught up with him — but only after a dangerous chase that left Sri Lankan officers wondering whether they had enemies not only in the underworld, but in their own ranks.

WhatsApp Betrayal

The scandal reached absurd heights when it emerged that a police officer sent Padme a copy of his Interpol Red Notice over WhatsApp — a literal gift-wrapped warning of global pursuit.

That isn’t incompetence. That’s betrayal.

Shielding the Don?

Now the IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya has promised that “no officer who colluded with the underworld will go unpunished.” But Colombo is buzzing:

Why has no one been named?

Are senior figures being protected?

And if the leaks run high up the ladder, will the truth ever surface?

Olugala and Jayasundara risked their necks on foreign roads, knowing a single phone call could have unleashed hitmen on their trail. They brought Padme down, but the real danger may lie closer to home: a police force compromised from within.

Until the leaker is named, the question hangs heavy: who really protects Sri Lanka’s most dangerous gangster?
