Who’s Really Visiting Ranil?

The hospital corridors may be quiet, but the buzz outside is anything but. Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, now under treatment at the Colombo National Hospital after being remanded, has suddenly become the hottest name on everyone’s lips – not just for his case, but for the VIP traffic around his sickbed.

So far, Mahinda Rajapaksa has openly walked in, smiling for cameras and blasting the government’s actions as “political revenge.” Former First Lady Maithri Wickremesinghe has also been spotted by some, though her appearances remain low-key.

But the big question making rounds: Where is Chandrika? The former President has so far been a notable absentee, with her silence raising more questions than answers.

And then came the drama – a Hiru News report claiming that Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya too had dropped by with Maithri. Within hours, the Prime Minister’s Office hit back, flatly denying the claim.

“The report is false and misleading. The Prime Minister did not visit Mr. Wickremesinghe at the hospital,” officials said, urging the network to issue a correction.

The clarification only fueled more speculation. Was it a slip by the media? A secret visit denied to avoid controversy? Or just another Colombo whisper turning into headline fodder?

For now, Ranil’s hospital room remains the center of both sympathy and scandal – with visitors coming in, denials flying out, and the press scrambling to keep up.
