Mobile Freedom: Sri Lanka to Introduce Number Portability in 2025

Good news for mobile users in Sri Lanka! From June 2025, you will be able to switch your mobile network provider while keeping the same phone number. This was confirmed during a Ministerial Consultative Committee meeting on Digital Economic Affairs, chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

This feature, known as number portability gives users more freedom to choose the best network without worrying about losing their number. It encourages competition among service providers, pushing them to offer better services and prices.

Although number portability has been discussed for years, it has never been implemented—until now. With this change, mobile users will finally have the flexibility and freedom they deserve.
