Banana Leaves instead of Lunch Sheets

 

Steps Taken to Replace Lunch Sheets with Banana Leaves for Food Packaging.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Namal Karunaratne, has announced that steps are being taken to use processed banana leaves instead of polythene lunch sheets for food packaging.

The Food Promotion Board has initiated measures to prepare the necessary banana leaves for this purpose. According to the board, a 45-centimeter banana leaf will be sold at a price of Rs. 4.00, and the required machinery for processing is available at their factory in Dehiwala.

Farmers who can supply banana leaves can obtain further information through the Food Promotion Board’s website. Additionally, efforts are being made to establish this as a sustainable home-based industry.
