Police has informed that former Russian consulate who is on a red alert warning because of the Mig fighter deal case has arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (14) and was taken into custody and that he would be produced before Fort magistrate today (14).

Former Russian consulate Udayanga Weerathunga who was even issued an international red alert warning by naming him a suspect over the Mig aircraft deal during last Mahinda Rajapaksa's regime
arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (14). At a time when a case was being heard under the last regime, though he was cornered in Dubai; it was not possible to get him down to Sri Lanka over an issue relating to legal documents pertaining to the emigration and immigration department. During that period he had presented himself as a guest at on several occasions during Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa's Japan tour.

There is an allegation to the effect that he had engaged in a financial fraud relating to finances of importing Mig aircrafts from Russia running into crores during the war era. Apart from that, complaints were made against him on suspicion of the sudden death of an employee of the consulate office who incidentally prepared papers and documents connected to an assistant of his who prepared those relating to the said Mig transaction.
Udayanga Weerathunga who was on a warrant refrained from coming to Sri Lanka continuously during the past and in the instance he stepped into this country from Katunayaka airport early this morning without any fear was taken into custody by the criminal investigation department. It is reported that by now he is under interrogation by the CID.
