Separate place for protestors at Galle Face
Heavy traffic congestion and serious pressure is inflicted on normal public because of protests taking place every now and then in the city of Colombo. In instances of roads being closed, water canons and tear gas being aimed at, not only the demonstrators but even the common public become victims on such occasions.
It is a feature of a democratic society to provide space to hold protests. In the same way, it is the
responsibility of demonstrators to carry on their protests in a manner that it does not cause problems to others. For this purpose the government has decided to name a separate location. As such, a location close to Galle Face, Colombo has been named as the place of holding protests. Thus, in future, those who wish to hold protests could go to that place and carry on whatever protest they wish to and those who hope to make a demonstration would be directed to that said location by the police.
