Shermi Kumar who became popular by saying "I am a prostitute" ... taken into custody

The female by the name of Shermi Kumar who earned an abnormal popularity over YouTube by publicly saying that she is a prostitute and was conducting a brothel under guise of a beauty salon was taken into police custody last Sunday. 

At the time thirty five year old Rathna Kumar Shermila alias Shermi Kumar was apprehended at a beauty salon in Hendala in Wattala by Police Walana Anti Corruption Unit, it was revealed that she
had supplied females to the value of a sum of Rs. 30000. This woman who enjoyed great popularity among social media came into the stage by making sensational statements across YouTube channel thus degrading entire women folk. She went on to make direct uproarious statements of an obscene nature devoid of any moralistic nature stated that she was a prostitute. 

About ten years before this she had come forward in the field of modelling as a fashion model and after the year 2015 turned into a sensational character bt announcing in public that she was a prostitute. About three years back she had commenced a beauty salon under the title 'Indian' close to a well-known vihara in Hekiththa, Wattala and under activities of a beauty salon had even operated a brothel of marketing women, it was revealed. 

Last Sunday the Walana Anti Corruption Unit officers raided that place and took two other women together with Shermi into custody. On that occasion she had made an attempt to mislead police by having drunk something, it was reported. Though many people spoke about Shermi from three or four years, a question arises as to why no power whatsoever was active against her. However, a written document received by director of alana Anti Corruption Unit stated that this woman concerned had been releasing videos harmful to society across internet and was engaged in luring people to sexual activity thus with the motive of picking their pocket, so to say. In the information conveyed therein apart from that it was mentioned that under the guise of a beauty salon a racket of marketing women for money too was in progress. 

As a result, an officer disguised as a decoy of Walana Anti Corruption Unit went in search of Apriyana beauty salon on 24th of last month. Even when the decoy reached that place Shermi Kumar was found present at the said beauty salon.When his requirement was discussed with her, what Kumar said was: "I have enough of women with me. What kind of one do you want? A young one .. someone elder .. or well-built one .. lean one? I have any type". That was her language. Further she has said, "Come any time you wish. If you order now, now itself you will have to pay thirty thousand. If you want her here, even that is possible. But there is not much space. If you want you can take her out .. no problem .. what I want is only money". 

She then gave her mobile phone number to the decoy and instructed him to give her a call when coming again and that the required woman could be secured without having to rustify. "Okay miss ... I will be coming by about ten in the morning next Sunday .. but I will be bringing a friend of mine. I want two young beautiful girls". 'Aiyo .. it's a simple thing, no', came the reply. 

Thus the police made arrangements to conduct the raid last first, Sunday. During the past several days the decoy was asked the date and time when he was coming. In this manner several photographs of females were directed to to the decoy across whats app internet telephone system to make the selection easier. The decoy in turn who arranged everything then informed her after selecting two from those photographs. 

On the day of the raid concerned, the decoy who was accompanied by other officers of Walana Anti Corruption Unit first of all entered the beauty salon and met Shermi to negotiate the deal. At that moment she had demanded the sum of Rs. thirty thousand to release one female for the purpose. The decoy then paid an advance of Rs. twenty thousand and thus secured the required female. It was when this transaction was in operation that officers of Walana Anti Corruption Unit jumped on the scene. Shermi who realised that her clandestine business was cornered, started attacking the officers with her customary lewd barrage of remarks saying, "What I am doing is a social necessity ... I am not doing anything wrong ... anybody has the right to do anything he or she wants!" 

In the process a lass of twenty two years and another young woman aged thirty four from Kalutara and Wellampitiya at the beauty salon ready to sell their bodies were taken into custody. Subsequently after all three of them were produced before Wattala magistrate were ordered to be remanded till next 9th. 

At a YouTube channel interview sometime back Shermi has once said that if she was cornered by law and is produced in court one day she would reveal all secrets of the profession of prostitution. Shermi who was born in Colombo speaks openly about activities involved with males. After Shermi was arrested, most people around in the vicinity of her beauty salon in Wattala told us that during the past era it was a place which was operated as a brothel with a license. 

"We complained to many places of authority about this. But it was of no use. That woman had close connections with many politicians, actors  actresses as well as people of a diplomatic level in the country. A lot .... irrespective of the time of the day ... they frequent in the open. Actually we praise Walana Anti Corruption Unit for having taken this woman into custody. That is what a trader having a shop nearby and who refused to divulge his name said.
