Gota - Sajith at election commission at moment of releasing final result
On the occasion when the final result being announced commenced at election secretariat at 3 in the afternoon, Gotabhaya - Sajith and several presidential candidates were present at elections general secretariat.
In this instance, chairman of election commission Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya offered thanks to the co-
operation of president Maithripala Sirisena for being independent. He also said that he was elated to find that it was possible to overcome the 'poster battle' this time. Whatever it is, he said that it is problematic that he did not get an opportunity to make some influence on controlling the private media. He then came up with a humorous remark that in future, heads of media institutions would be suitable to select the MPs.
On this occasion Sajith Premadasa had come accompanying his wife Jalani. Gotabhaya turned up rather late and by that time Chamal, Mahinda together with the brothers were in their seats and when Gotabhaya turned up, proceedings were curtailed for a few moments and he was given the opportunity of taking a seat. However, Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and Mahesh Senanayaka were not be seen on this occasion.
It was announced that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was chosen as the president according to the final result of presidential elections as was depicted on the ballot paper in order respectively. Subsequent to he speech of Mahinda Deshapriya, defeated candidate Sajith Premadasa and victorious candidate made their speeches.
