One case out of 28 cases fruitful -- Kanjipani Imran sentenced to 6 years rigorous imprisonment

Kanjipani Imran after being expelled to Sri Lanka from Dubai was kept under police custody and is a notorious underground character dealing in heroin and is a go-between for the Muslim heroin international network as well as directing looting and murders. Though there are charges of crime against him, he had been absconding from law enforcement agencies for a period of time.

In the meantime what was reported today was he was sentenced to 6 years rigorous imprisonment. He
was incidentally charged for the offence of keeping 5.3 kilogrammes of ganja in his possession and for transporting them. When considering things reported relating to him, though this comparatively is a minor offence he would be spending some time in prison.

Attorney General has filed indictments against Kanjipani Imran before Colombo high court and the case was called for hearing itoday in the presence of judge Mr. Gihan Kulatunga. On that occasion the attorney at law, Mr. Lakshman Perera who appeared on behalf of Kanjipani Imran said that his client admits guilt for having kept narcotics in his possession and dealing in them thereby.

Under these circumstances Colombo high court ordered that a rigorous jail  sentence be imposed for 3 years for each charge to be completed in 6 years. About 27 cases are in suspense in various courts against Kanjipani Imran over charges of homicides, conspiring and aiding and abetting to murder and narcotics activities and further investigations are underway in that connection. Legal sources say that he would be appearing for those cases during his imprisonment and if he is found guilty for such charges, this jail term would be extended further.
