Letter from America against appointing Shavendra Silva

An announcement has been released saying that  United States are deeply concerned about lieutenant general Shavendra Silva being appointed army commander. It is also mentioned there that United Nations Organisation and other organisations have documented accusations and violations of human rights as being serious and credible. It is further stated that at a time when particularly reconciliation and social unity are of paramount importance this appointment brings into disrepute growth of the international goodwill,
justica and responsibility of Sri Lanka.

Apart from this, an announcement has been launched by The International Truth and Justice Project expressing displeasure about this appointment. A report comprising 137 pages have been released about Shavendra's mode of operation or behaviour and what was brought to focus Shavendra and his contingent have engaged in a number of acts of injustice to civilians during the final humanitarian operations. It was stated he owed an active contribution in the 1989 JVP suppression and in association with his experience these acts too were committed. In the meantime Centre for Policy Alternatives, a local institution has released an announcement requesting to once again consider appointment of lieutenant general Shavendra Silva.
