Friends who tried to get kappam by threatening, saying that clip showing previous homosexual activity would be exposed and thus break the marriage
An incident was reported recently from Bandarawela about a ha-ho which flared up of homosexual friends of a certain young man who was getting ready to enter into marriage with the motive of taking kappam.
News had spread that the said young man had brought a bride and was getting married and in the process some friends who had shared a boarding with him sometime back had been a stumbling block in this matter. The said youth has become addicted to homosexual activity with them at the time he
was in their company and he has said goodbye to al suh involvements and the friends had come to know that he was going to settle down by bringing a bride home. Under these circumstances they had continuously bothered the young man with telephone calls asking him to give up the decision to marry. Whatever it is, these telephone calls was a nuisance to this boy who was dreaming of a new lease of life thus getting rid of his earlier immoral activities.

In the meantime, a few days before the wedding these telephone calls have turned out to be so intense that this annoyance has given hi a shock. On the other hand they had threatened him saying that parts of taped video clips of homosexual activity were available with them and that those would be made available to the bride's party and thus break up marriage ties.
The young man who actually was aware that such video clips were available had pleaded not to put him into trouble. At that moment the homosexual friends had responded saying that if a kappam of Rs. ten lakhs are given to them ... then they would refrain from taking such action. This young boy who was highly shocked by this threat and his thoughts were nowhere thinking how he should find a way to get out of this grip when a brother of the young man has questioned him as to what his problem is.
Though he at the outset the issue was not exposed, on compulsion of the brother he has spoken about his homosexual episodes as well as the threats aimed at him. After listening to this story he has advised him to seek support of the police. Later the two of them who approached Bandaragama police they were asked to get a telephone call to the homosexual friends and say though he is able to give the money so demanded that he was not in a position of securing 10 lakhs but if necessary, 5 lakhs could be given. Later the homosexual friends have agreed to it.
To collect the kappam the homosexual friends had come in a three-wheeler belonging to a friend. It was possible to take them into custody when the boys were got down strategically to a spot in Bandaragama town. The two suspects arrested were of the ages of 37 and 29 and were residents of Uyanwattha, Raigama, Bandarawattha. One of those who came to get soe money was a tree-cutter while the other was a three-wheel driver. They were taken into custody yesterday (15) at Bandaragama while the three-wheeler in which the culprits demanding a bribe was taken into custody. Suspects are to be produced before court. In order to safeguard the privacy of the said young man related to the incident, police who did not divulge his name what police said was as arranged earlier he would be entering into marriage next week.
