When news spread around about arrest ... Pujith and Hemasiri both abscond CID -- say sick and enter hospital!

7 pm Update
Inspector general of police, Pujith Jayasundera and former secretary of defence, Hemasiri Fernando have not reported to the criminal investigation department ; however, after their matter was inquired into by court, instructions were issued this afternoon (2) that they be taken into custody and be remanded for a day. Whatever it is, facilities have been provided to remain in hospital for 24 hours instead of remand prison. After related information about IGP Mr. Pujith Jayasundera who was sent on compulsory leave and former defence secretary, Mr. Hemasiri Fernando were forwarded to Colombo chief magistrate's court, Colombo chief magistrate ordered that they be remanded till
tomorrow and police superintendent, Mr. Ruwan Gunasekera mentioned that accordingly Mr. Pujith Jayasundera is under treatment at police hospital under custody of officers of criminal investigation department while Mr. Hemasiri Fernando is being treated at Colombo national hospital under officers of criminal investigation department.

--------- 2 pm Update
A humorous piece of information was reported today (2) where in the instance IGP Pujith Jayasundera who was sent on compulsory leave and former secretary of defence, Hemasiri Fernando have got themselves both admitted to hospital in a background where news started floating around that they are to be arrested and summoned to appear at criminal investigation department today.

What was reported as headlines today in national newspapers was that it was confirmed that as action was not taken to prevent the Easter Sunday attack which was confirmed, the attorney general has issued orders to arrest both Pujith and Hemasiri 5 days before. It was also stated in those reports that queries were made about that order being not carried out. Under this background both Pujith and Hemasiri were summoned to appear at the CID to record the statements and news circulated that after those statements instructions were to take them into custody without any dilly dallying.

Mr. Hemasiri Fernando has been admitted to Colombo national hospital indicating that he suffered a sudden stroke of sickness and by now it is reported that he is presently under treatment lying at cardiology unit. In the meantime, IGP Mr. Pujith Jayasundera who was sent on compulsory leave too has all of a sudden admitted himself to Narahenpita police hospital saying that he is sick.

The attorney general has last Thursday informed present IGP to name both these two suspects as having neglected their official duties and responsibilities in connection with the April 21st attack. But both of them who were upto then in very good health have simultaneously become sick. What came to be known is that as both of them were ailing when they were expected to report to CID at 9.3 in the morning. Avoiding the law at a moment when law is effected has now become a common tradition as such and needless to say, prior to this, those connected to politics too have done likewise.
