Namal Rajapaksa ... weds on 17th September
It was announced that eldest son of opposition leader, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, member of parliament, Mr. Namal Rajapaksa would be entering into marriage on September 17th ... exactly 3 months ahead.
It was to Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi to whom news about his marriage was initially revealed. A meeting between Mr. Narendra Modi who visited the island on a brief tour and Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa took place at the official residence, "India House" of the Indian high

Instantly the Indian Prime Minister has queried as to why the date 17th September in particular was selected. MP Mr. Namal Rajapaksa has hesitated for a moment to reply on that occasion when the opposition leader has immediately intervened and said that September 17th is an auspicious day. Mr. Narendra Modi has then responded saying that it is his birthday on that day and the crowd there were seen with smiles on their faces.

We inquired as to who the fortunate lady was and we were made to understand that she happened to be the only daughter of well-known Sri Lankan businessman, Tilak Weerasingha and Aruni Wickremaratna, the latter of whom has won a name as a short distance runner for a short period of time. Mr. Tilak Wickremaratna is the owner of several tourist hotels in this country.
