"Because Mahinda can't do ... I'll contest for the Presidency" -- Gotabhaya
According to rules of nineteenth amendment, as Mahinda Rajapaksa is not able to contest again for the next Presidency, he would definitely be coming forward, former secretary of defence, Gotabaya Rajapaksa has exclaimed once more at an interview given to 'The Week' magazine published in India. Prior to this, he has exclaimed this same idea to Reuter Press Agency last week. The latest edition which is to be published in the 'The Week' magazine next 12th to the market, Gotabhaya has expressed these ideas have been for that magazine edition.
Gotabhaya who has expressed these ideas about Easter Sunday attack has informed that as a defence

On the direct question, "In this discussion ... are you contesting for the Presidency?" the response given by Gotabhaya was, "Yes". When questioned is it because his brother is not in a position to do so ... Gotabhaya has replied saying, "Yes". He has also informed that though Mahinda is the most popular leader in Sri Lanka, as according to the 19th amendment he (Gotabhaya) is required by the public.
He has also informed that he had carried out the duties accurately and urban development entrusted to him by the last government and because the country is disappointed of the present traditional politics a trust on an untraditional person could emerge within the public, he believes. He finally mentioned that in future he is prepared to relinquish his American citizenship and serve the country.
