"To control Islam extremists ... I will contest for Presidentship ... 100% confirmed -- Gotabhaya Rajapaksa
Former Secretary of Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday told Reuter News Agency that he would be contesting the Sri Lanka President's election next September and that could be confirmed hundred percent. It is mentioned there, "Gotabhaya said it would be a candidate '100 percent' firming up months of speculation that he plans to run the elections, which are due by December".
He has mentioned at the interview held by Sanjeew Miglani and Shihar Anis with Gotabhaya that
among objectives of appearing for the President election, preventing Islam extremism and strengthening intelligence service once again takes prominence. He has mentioned on this occasion that both during the war and in the aftermath if the intelligence unit which he developed was not weakened after the incumbent government came into power, attacks that transpired recently could have been prevented and it is seen from procedures adopted by government after the explosions that the government was not prepared for this situation.
