Arambawelage Don Laksitha Upali, the son of Soththi Upali, the latter of whom was a noted former underground leader was taken into custody at a two-storeyed house down Kudanmulla Road, in Katubedda with a stock of heroin worth over Rs. two and a half crores and a weapon in his possession, Wellawatta anti-corruption unit say. A quantity of heroin weighing two kilos and five hundred and forty nine plus a weapon produced in a foreign country hidden in that house were taken into police custody. A police officer from Wellawatta anti-corruption unit who
participated in the raid was on duty covering Kudanmulla Road, Katubedda for a number of days and was able to apprehend the suspect concerned when latter was walking on the road and on inspection a quantity of 10 grammes was found in his possession.  

After a lengthy interrogation of this suspect, it was revealed that heroin  was hidden inside the Kudanmulla house which had been taken at a monthly rental of Rs. twenty seven thousand last 28th and subsequently after it was revealed, the said raid was launched and the stock of heroin and firearm was found, the police officer further mentioned. According to information leaked out this stock of heroin was sent across an unidentified person through the person known as Thilan who is presently incarcerated and that according to telephone calls given by Thilan, preparations were underway already for this stock of heroin to be distributed in areas such as Kalutara, Mount Lavinia, Piliyandala, Ratmalana and Moratuwa. The 41 year old suspect arrested is expected to be produced before Moratuwa courts.
