Mahela opens new Derana News Channel

A pre-announcement was made cross photos about a new change to be effected in the Derana News channel sometime back and it was made manifest yesterday (1) and the 6.55 news broadcast was thus presented with a new facelift. 

As indicated by that channel the modern studio of South Asia with the highest facilities was thus launched. Those who contributed in the creation of international news channels such as CNN and Al
Jazeera had partaken in this creation too, it is mentioned on this occasion. Two announcers being entrusted to present the news bulletin, making changes in the background news broadcast and special items being separately presented are items which were not to be seen so far in Derana channel are associated with the new changes so effected. 

Cricketing legend Mahela Jayawardena was brought to Derana studios last evening as chief guest and the new studio was declared open by him. The absence of political heads not being invited on this occasion was conspicuous. Yesterday's news broadcast went over the air with Dilka and Chathura being present on the occasion. 

Whatever it is, a technical fault emerged no sooner when the first news item was being presented when the manner in which the new year was celebrated was presented to viewers by Chathura and was proceeding to the rest of the news when he got blocked thereafter. Over 15 minutes this technical fault had been active and as a consequence news broadcast had to be curtailed and steps were taken to rectify the mishap, it was reported. Till this was done, what came across the screen to viewers were some publicity items connected to teledramas of Derana channel.
