Three injured with former minister Arjuna's security guard opening fire
A clash has erupted between minister of Petroleum Resources Development Arjuna Ranatunga with a group of people who have behaved in an obstructive manner when he had come to Dematagoda Petroleum Corporation head office after he lost his office in order to collect some relevant documents. This incident has taken place after the conflict of powers took place on Friday around 3.50 that afternoon.
It is understood that the employees had behaved in a manner that the former minister who came to the
office was not able to come out of the office. In this instance as a result of a bodyguard of former minister opening fire, three employees of the corporation has suffered injury and admitted to hospital, police say. One person has sustained injury to the head and the other on his chest, hospital sources say. Both of them are to undergo surgery. Police say that an argument former minister of Petroleum Resources Development had with the crowd there had gone beyond bounds and has led to this incident. By now the said environment has been afforded protection by police, riot squad and police special task force providing security. Roads close to the flyover have been closed and a heated situation has flared up among the crowd that has gathered there by now. Scenes of a victim who faced gunshots being rushed to hospital during this commotion have been released to the social media. The officer responsible for firing has been taken into custody by police.
