Uproar in Galaha Hospital because of child who died from medical negligence
As a result of the death of a three and a half year old child who was admitted to Kandy Galaha hospital, tension has flared up at the said hospital premises.
It is the opinion of the child's parents and relatives that the death concerned has taken place as a result of the two doctors at the hospital have not diagnosed the child properly and that no proper action has been taken over the child. There had been a delay in the diagnosis of the child and though he was
transferred to Peradeniya, that too was delayed which resulted in this death.
People who surrounded the hospital had further resorted to create obstruction in a manner that the doctors there were unable to come out and had even created damage to property at the hospital. The police special task force had to be summoned to control the situation.
It was Sankar Sajeewaran, a three and a half year old boy who had died under these circumstances. Though his parents had taken action to admit the child this morning (28) to Galaha provincial hospital because the child has felt thoroughly inconvenienced because of phlegm, accusations are levelled against the doctors for having neglected to diagnose the patient.
Later though doctors have recommended that the child be dispatched to Peradeniya hospital, that too had been delayed because there had been no ambulance available that moment. The parents have come forward to take the child in a three wheeler; but no permission had been given for that either. During the course of all this delay, the child has passed away, it was reported. People in the area who behaved in an unruly manner on that occasion have resorted to attacking buildings in the hospital and motor
vehicles of two doctors. Subsequently, police and police special task force had arrived to bring the situation under control. A police officer who arrived on the scene had approached the protesters and displaying a letter to them had said that the doctor concerned has been transferred to the Kandy zone health director's office. However, the protesters have said that they would not give up their protest until the doctors concerned are taken into custody.
