Accepts China company remitted to Basil's wife's Foundation account ...
After the dialogue which floated across recently, it was accepted that a sum of 1 crore and ninety four lakhs (1,94,10,000) has been credited to the charity organisation called Pushpa Rajapaksa Foundation on 21st May, 2012 by the Chinese company known as CICT, which transaction is suspected as a bribe.
This information was revealed for the first time in the said survey after a special audit conducted by Auditor General Mr. W.M. Gamini Wijeysingha and it was further revealed that after that money was
remitted in 2012, the contract of operations at Colombo South port terminal was granted to the said Chinese company in 2013 with blessings of Basil Rajapaksa who was the then minister of Economic Development. Shares of this Chinese company known as C.I.C.T. or Colombo International Container Terminals Limited amounts to eighty five percent (85%) while the number of shares possessed by Sri Lanka Ports Authority happens to be fifteen percent (15%). According to the agreement, the above-mentioned company has established terminals and fixed cranes etcetera on July first, two thousand thirteenth (2013.07.01) and commenced operations. The said company has issued a cheque to be credited to Peoples' Bank to account 204-1-001-5-003290 of the main office maintained under the name Pushpa Rajapaksa Foundation of Hong Kong and Shanghai bank with a cheque bearing number 59491.
It was then revealed from the audit report that the said sum of money so credited to Pushpa Rajapaksa Foundation was an attempt towards port development of Colombo South and that it was a payment credited (invested) by the Chinese company. Those who carried out the audit have made a note that by crediting it in the account that way, what transpires is that that expense has to be borne by the public of this country. Whatever it is, C.I.C.T. now says is that it was given on the understanding that it was given as a donation to erect houses for low-income population. The most recent press release has said that it is not a bribe and there are so many social services launched in that manner as in the case of Koslanda earthslip.
Whatever it is, it then poses a question as for what reason Pushpa Rajapaksa Foundation only was selected when there are enough of voluntary associations that could provide monetary donations. In the same way, as they say, it is pertinent to inquire whether Pushpa Rajapaksa has actually erected houses in that manner.
