delivers baby inside train!
A pregnant female travelling in the night train 'Meenagaya' which was heading to Batticaloa from Colombo had delivered a baby within the compartment itself around early in the dawn at one o'clock.
Having thrown medical advice to the winds this pregnant woman has left hospital and had been travelling in the train and when the railway guard on duty has notified Habarana police around 12.30
in the night that sheis well nigh delivering the baby. On that occasion Habarana police had informed the medical officer of Habarana hospital. Later a lady family health officer accompanied by the health staff had visited Habarana railway station. As her delivery pains had aggravated when the train was nearing Habarana railway station, subsequently the baby was delivered in the railway compartment itself. At that moment the lady family health officer has provided all medical facilities for the mother and had taken steps to transport the delivered baby and the mother to Habarana hospital.
She in fact was a mother of two children from Batticaloa by the name of M. Rismira and twenty six years of age. The baby who was born yesterday within the railway compartment was in fact her third baby and it happened to be a baby boy.
As the mother was suffering from a heart ailment, she was sent to Dambulla basic hospital for better safety of her life. Doctors of the hospital said that both mother and child warded there are in good health. It was revealed that she had delivered her baby this way while she was on her way to her village by train in the company of her husband paying scant respect to the advice of doctors at the time she was being warded at a leading government hospital in Colombo. The doctors had considered the possible risk involved to both mother and baby during moment of delivery since she was suffering from a heart ailment.
It was possible to rescue that mother and baby because officers of Habarana police and Habarana hospital health staff hastened in this regard without any delay as such, it was reported. This happens to be the very first instance when an incident of this nature was reported in the hundred and sixty history of this country.
