Chamara Sampath who reprimanded and made lady-principal kneel down ... once again assumes education minister position

Uva Province chief minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayaka who surrendered to police after the incident of allegedly making the lady principal Mrs. R. Bhavani of Badulla Tamil Ladies College and thus created a sensation recently was bailed out and had subsequently resigned from his position as education minister. However, Uva Province former
governor M.P. Jayasingha has taken steps to reinstate him back to the position of provincial education minister.

In the above connection he has stated that he has made this reinstatement after having considered requests from provincial council members and the public as well and that as an education minister he he has not been accused only in this case and that he has no other complaints against him; however, if in case he is accused of any other misdeed, the public as well as the media too reserves the right to lodge complaints against him.

The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission too had carried out an investigation with regard to the incident of summoning the principal Mrs. R. Bhavani to the official residence of the chief minister and after having reprimanded her had subsequently asked her to kneel down. In this connection the complaint is still being heard in courts and the chief minister is still under bail. Though an inquiry was conducted on orders of the governor, he had been reinstated to the former position without the inquiry report being made public. Mr Samantha Vidyaratna, Mp for Uva provincial council of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna who intially exposed this issue which the principal faced has mentioned that this act is seriously looked down upon.
