Police having noticed missed call ... summons wife to bring key

A queer incident is reported from Seeduwa area about an attempt made by police to check about a person who had died suddenly on the road who had been driving the vehicle with all doors locked.

The road leading to St. Thomas' International School close to Liyanagemulla Jayalath Cinema Hall in Seeduwa is a road running parallel to the expressway ending in the strip of a lagoon. In order to gain access to the stretch of the lagoon, there is a big culvert under the Colombo - Katunayaka
Expressway. Two police officers on night patrol had observed a vehicle which was parked under this culvert and a certain person sleeping on the driver's seat. Even a mini-lorry could travel to and fro from under this culvert and the Seeduwa Police pay  special alert on the stretch of the lagoon beyond because various corrupt activities have been noted there.

This couple of police officers engaging on night patrol duties had approached the said vehicle to inspect the vehicle concerned as it was strange to see a vehicle parked under a culvert and had then noticed the driver asleep on the driver's seat. However much the two police officers tapped on windows of the vehicle, there had been no response by the driver. Therefore one of the officers had even made an effort to open the door of the vehicle. This too was in vain because all doors were found locked. Later some other officers were summoned to the spot. While they too were engaged in opening the doors of the vehicle, unanticipatedly a mobile phone inside the vehicle was heard ringing. One police officer in the crowd having observed that the driver was not paying heed to that call either and had immediately got into action and on looking inside from the window had noted down the number appearing on that phone. Subsequently Chief Police Inspector Mr. Kumarapeli who dialled that number had found that it belonged to the wife of the person inside the said vehicle. The police then informed her that that person inside the vehicle was showing no response and is stuck inside the vehicle and therefore if possible to come there with another key.

Later the wife of the person inside the vehicle together with some relatives had arrived bringing the extra key and after opening the door had taken the person out of the vehicle and taken her husband to the hospital in the company of the police officers. The doctor there had informed the relevant party that he had passed away and had directed the body to the mortuary of the hospital until the postmortem was conducted.

Seeduwa Police were able to find that the deceased person was 41 years of age and was a resident of 401/3, Ridiwella Road, Daluwakotuwa, Kochchikade; a father of 3 children and was a building contractor. Police say that the deceased was wearing a gold chain and other jewellery worth close upon Rs. 20 lakhs at that time. According to the post mortem held in Negombo Basic Hospital on the  death, it was deduced that it was a sudden death caused by blocking of some arteries.
