Chilaw child's murderer cornered unexpectedly
The police have been successful in arresting the person who sexually abused a 10 year old boy in Iranawila, Chilaw and killed him while the accused had later been hiding in an abandoned fishing wadiya in the fishing village Kokilai Nayaru, Mullaitivu yesterday (04). Photographs about this suspect were released to police stations and police had issued a special announcement
to nab suspicious persons moving about in fishing villages.
It was during this period that the police had been alert about an outsider moving about Nayaru Fishing Village. He was then questioned by the police and when asked where his residence was, he had stammered and said that he was from Chilaw. When police asked "Didn't you sexually abuse a child?" he displayed some sort of a fear as was noted from his gestures. The suspect then admitted on interrogation that he had promised the boy concerned that he would catch some parrots and give him and had taken the said 10 year old boy to a jungle and had then abused him. However when the boy had later told that he would reveal this to his parents, the suspect had throttled the boy and assaulted and murdered him. He had gone into hiding for 2 days in Chilaw area he had got into a bus plying to Mulalitivu and had arrived 4 or 5 days before at a fishing wadiya left abandoned in Kokilai area. All this he has revealed in the presence of the police officers. He also said that he not come to Mullaitivu before. When interrogating further he had confessed that he had abused a few other minors too. He then added that at the time he was escorting this boy, though he had attempted to cast a net on another boy, he had failed. Police say that they suspect him of the incident of raping the daughter of a beggar close to Chilaw Resthouse some years before. This suspect by the name of Jude Fonseka is 52 years old and a father of 2 children. Police say that his wife had passed away sometime back. He is a resident of Wella area in Chilaw.
