Finally Arjuna's name creeps into Guiness Record book

The artificial Christmas Tree which was scheduled to be erected at Galle Face grounds in Colombo as the 'world's tallest Christmas Tree' an year before in 2016 creating a big
uproar with even leaders of the Catholic order too bringing some opposition in the process was applied to enter Guiness Records. However, due to various issues the record was not sanctioned initially by organisers of Guiness Records. But by now the Guiness institute has informed Sri Lanka that they have accepted the report concerned.

The said Christmas Tree has been accepted as the 'Largest artificial Christmas tree' even by websites and the owner of the record has been documented as Arjuna Ranatunga Social Services.

It was reported that this Christmas tree with a height of 72.1 metres was built by private donations at a time when Arjuna Ranatunga was the Minister of Ports. It was understood that electric bulbs at a cost of 8 lakhs were used to light up the tree. Proceedings of this project came to a standstill halfway on a request made by His Eminence of Colombo, Malcom Cardinal Ranjith implying that it was a waste of money. However at a later stage permission was obtained with the Minister and the Prime Minister using some persuasion after which the tree was erected. Shown below is the manner in which the record appears in the website.
