Second heart transplant in Kandy ... a failure Young girl dies

The second heart transplant attempt which was specially focused upon by the media during the recent past where the young girl Sachini Sewwandi (19) was subjected to a surgery however was not successful and as a consequence she breathed her last, last afternoon

She has died while being under treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Cardiothoracic Unit, 3 days after the surgery. Sachini had been suffering from a weakness of the heart and was undergoing treatment at the Cardiology Unit of Kandy General Hospital from last March 27th and last 27th morning the heart of a youth whose brain was dead had been donated and this heart was transplanted to her.

The doctors have initially stated that the surgery was a success. Sewwandi's father Mr. Mahesh Kumara had mentioned that the reason of the heart malfunctioning was because of high blood pressure in her lungs as stated in her death certificate. Final rites of deceased Sewwandi is expected to be conducted on forthcoming 4th at 4 in the evening at Aluthgama General Cemetery.
