A player of the First Class Rugby team of Trinity College, Kandy has died in hospital from a sudden illness during training period and the reason for his demise, an open verdict has been pronounced.

As understood this student had been engaging in warming up exercises by running from Trinity
College, Kandy upto Pallekele Trinity College Playground and had most abruptly collapsed in an unconscious state in Pallekele area on the 30th around 11.00 in the morning and after being taken in a three-wheeler was produced before a private doctor and later admitted to Kandy General Hospital where he had died.

It was a 17 year old student by the name of Bhathiya Ekanayaka from Augustawatta, Bolawatta, Kandy who had died in this manner. He had been following studies in the G.C.E. Advanced Level class. The father of the deceased happens to be employed as the driver of Trinity College bus. Deceased Bhathiya is the eldest in the family and also has a sister. Pallekele and Kandy Police are conducting a joint investigation over the incident. The postmortem of the body was expected to be conducted last afternoon (2).
