Special statement from Wijedasa today -- in quandary whether to step down or not
Minister of Justice and Buddha Sasana is expected to make his standpoint clear at Ministry of Buddha Sasana this afternoon (21) in respect of allegations targeted at him.
Though Mr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa resolved the No Confidence of the UNP sometime back, a condition of suspense had taken place about his position as a result of some SLFP Ministers who were followers of President Maithripala speaking in favour of
his role whether he would hold on to his position in the future or not. The United Opposition are on a stable footing about him. After the issue of No Confidence was brought up about Minister Wijayadasa by the UNP, Rajitha and Ranil were subjected to severe indiscretion at media meetings; even Good Governance too was criticised. Therefore the decision he would arrive at is debatable.
In the process, after discussions with the committee appointed by the United National Party, information has gone round that the Minister was asked to relinquish his duties of Minister of Justice and today after clarifying his standing he would be resigning from both Minister posts.
There is also news that if Mr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa does not resign from that post today (21), backliners of the United National Party are proposing to force ousting Mr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, at the UNP parliament group meeting. If he resigns on his own, it has been decided to hand over the position of Minister of Justice to Mr. Jayampathy Wickremaratna.
