"It's because I don't do Politics that the family is in order" -- How Shiranthi spoke in 2012
It is rather remote to find former President's wife joining in for newspaper interviews. She had revealed some information to the country across Rivira Newspaper in the year during an interview given in 2012 at the time Mahinda was in power.
Shiranthi's father who made Badulla his hometown was in fact an officer of the Navy. She has 2 brothers. Shiranthi followed her education at HFC Bambalapitiya and had been engaged in sports such
as Hockey, Netball and Tennis. After her schooling she had completed a Degree course in Montessori and during that period she even became the beauty queen of Sri Lanka, it was explained there.
Mahinda Rajapaksa appeared as a Lawyer at that time and because of a marriage proposal brought to her she had given her consent to him and her horoscope which was beyond compatibility to anyone was found very much compatible to his.
At the time she was teaching children at Carlton Pre-school and she has said at the interview how she sent the children to school and how she faced a difficult period when Mahinda Rajapaksa was imprisoned. Because the children were not unnecessarily punished, she points out that they had kept up very cordial relationships with her and her husband and she adds that she not getting involved in Politics too has paved the way towards success in her family life.
Several questions posed to her about the 3 children at this interview were responded to by her in this manner:
* Did your eldest son have a desire to embark on Politics?
When engaged in conversation with him even from small days he used to bring out arguments ... sometimes I would lose my temper. Then our mother would say, 'those are signs that that child would become a Lawyer some day'. In the end what mother predicted saw the light of day. He would from his small days ask so many questions for anything. I of course didn't notice his political capabilities.
* It's at a decisive moment in the war that your second son Yoshitha joins the Naval Force. How did you face that decision?
I faced that situation with great happiness. Since my father too was a Naval Commander I didn't feel anything strange or fear about it as such. In any case I give way to my children's desires. If not the hapiness would disappear.
* What does your third son Rohitha do now?
He's studying for his medical degree in England. His intention is to become a Doctor. Apart from that he also has a desire of becoming a Space Scientist. He's studying for it separately.
* It's a playful age ... so there might be romantic connections also?
We can't make any influence in those things. Not like when we were small ... children nowadays are quite different. They should know how to select a compatible person to them. After that we'll give our consent. Other than that we of course will not go to force them. Read this full discussion, from here
