Ten million public funds gone astray because of Google Loon!
Sirasa News First has published a report challenging the statement made by Minister Harin Fernando that 'not a cent was spent from public funds' in connection with the unsuccessful Google Loon Project which ended with the publicity balloon coming down being given publicity that the whole country would be provided with Wi-Fi. As stated in the report, hiding behind the Google Loon
Project a company by the name of Rama was launched and has been engaged in an attempt to acquire broadcasting frequencies, which is a source of national wealth.
It is stated that in order to launch this project expenses to reserve the hall at Araliya Gaha Mandiraya to the tune of Rs. 450,000 and a sum of Rs. 28 lakhs and 30,500 has been paid for the production of video scenes in Sinhala and Tamil media were incurred while another 35 lakhs was expended to produce 3 short films and to produce a video tape on ICTA Institute while another Rs. 934,065 was incurred. In addition, the sum of Rs. 2,157,973.20 was spent on a private company to co-ordinate the ceremonial proceedings. All in all a total cost of Rs. 9,872,538.20 from public funds has been incurred.
