Judge of Vidya murder case targeted and shot at in Jaffna -- Police officer wounded in process
A shooting incident took place in Nallur area targeting Jaffna High Court Judge M. Ilanchelian at about 5.30 this evening.
These gunshots were fired at when Mr. Ilanchelian who represented the bench of 3 judges hearing the Vidya murder case at a time when he was travelling in his motor vehicle. While the judge sustained no injury in the shooting, a police officer riding his motor cycle and was on duty providing security to the judge thus became a prey in this instance. He was subsequently admitted to Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

The assailants who had come on a motor cycle with the motive of shooting had fired 11 gunshots one after the other and had later beat a retreat. The pistol used in the shooting and the abandoned motor cycle have been recovered by the police by now. A wide-scale inquiry has been launched in connection with the incident.
It was revealed sometime back that shareholders of a sexual video centre with Switzerland in focus was launched with the incident of student Vidya being collectively raped and murdered and after the culprits connected to it were cornered, an attempt to expend crores of foreign funds to release them was reported. The High Court which acted impartially against such bribes are these days engaged in solving the case in a justified manner and as a result several powerful elements have had to get into difficulty because of it.
