Inquiry by Central Bank about HNB Bank information leaking out
The Central Bank has launched an inquiry regarding the incident of data of 4,630 customers of HNB private bank leaking out externally.
This revelation took place across a promotional e-mail message mailed by HNB to their reputed clientele highlighting the point that HNB has reached the group of best banks in the world. In the e-
mail referred to, in addition to including laudable statements about the success the bank has achieved, it had gone to the extent of publicising and divulging names and financial values and other details of customers who have deposited large amounts of monies in their bank.
Though what has been intended by the said promotion launch is to make further customers join in to make deposits with the bank, this revelation has been carried out by those not having an idea about the surreptitious bank information.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has notified the public that this has happened because of neglect, as revealed at initial investigations. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has mentioned that further inquiries are underway by them and the relevant private bank to ascertain whether this was an oversight of the internal management of the bank.
