The whole story about plastic rice ... revealed to be a hoax!
The authority about customer affairs announce that no artificial rice was detected from investigations carried out islandwide over complaints received in connection with plastic rice and the customer authorities claim that the rumour circulated was a piece of created news and that they had informed police to take action against elements who have publicised descriptions about plastic rice in social
media. Its Information Unit Director Chandrika Tillekeratna stated that the relevant investigations were launched by the Rice Research Institute and the Industrial Technical Institute.
As such, rice samples secured by investigating officers of provincial offices situated in all districts in the island of the Consumer Authority were tested at special laboratories. According to reports obtained in those cases, no sample of rice that was tested contained plastic material, it was confirmed. Therefore, the Consumer Services Authority requests the public not to entertain any undue fears about rice.
According to allegations received from consumers during the past few days, Lanka Sathosa and other outlets had secured samples of rice. Since descriptions about plastic rice have been published across social networks maybe for the necessity of some people, the Consumer Authority has informed the CID to look for those persons and to take action against them.
