Jayalalitha who created a revolution in 60s by wearing short dresses for first time in Tamil movies!
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, deceased Jayalalitha Jeyaram at one time was an extremely popular actress in Tamil commercial films in India. Jayalalitha who joined with MGR by playing the role of the lover superbly made use of her popularity in the cinema perfectly for politics with the demise of MGR.
Jayalalitha who at that time became popular with the title 'sexy Lalitha' is an actress who undauntedly
appeared in the screen semi-nude. Dressing in the shortest manner in performing was considered as a disgrace in the nineteen sixties; but she holds the record of introducing the mini-skirt to Tamil movies for the first time. Jayalalitha had acted in about 130 films and it was 9 years later after bidding goodbye to films that she entered politics. Jayalalitha was engaged in politics from 1980 from there onwards and relinquished acting totally.
Certain scenes she played with MGR, Ganesh, Mohan, Kamal Hussan, Sivaji and Suresh were categorised under the label 'Adults only' and some of those video scenes had not been in a position to be publicised once more in public media, it was learned. Whatever it is, since the South Indian people were those who used to make heroes of the cinema, heroes of their personal life too and not her political philosophy or ruling abilities, it was her popularity which was the sole factor that contributed to boost her into power 6 times as the Chief Minister. As there were allegations of corruption regarding assets and properties she was sentenced to prison a few months after Modi came into power; but later she was successful by appealing against them and was finally freed of all such charges.
The extent to which Tamil Nadu public were gripped with disappointment during the period she was imprisoned is seen by the fact of the congestion of protests, suicides and numerous other reasons including heart attacks, finally resulting in 131 people sacrificing their lives in the process. The Tamil Nadu citizens were ever ready to accept her as a godhead addressing her with the pseudonym 'Amma'. Seen below is a collection of old photos of Jayalalitha and a selected video scene from a cinema track.
