Maithripala explains why the defeated candidates were taken into parliament

At the ceremony where 30 years of existence of the "Ravaya" newspaper was celebrated the President Maithripala Sirisena had explained why the dfeated candidates in the general election was appointed as Members of Parliament from the national list.

"It is said that those who were appointed by me through the national list have a lot of criticism.Whatever there are criticisms that are directed at me I reiterate that I had appointed those
who lost at the general election but who had helped me by giving strength during the 100 day  temporary government before the 17th August 2015.They are all brother members of the Sri Lanka Freedom party who were ministers.

These members had been conclusively beaten via a a collective conspiracy of Mahinda Rajapaksa as he had uttered that if they went with me you all would not be sent to parliament. The Mahinda Rajapaksa clan had canvassed not to vote for them displaying them with photos as they are Maithripala's people

After the August general election I needed 106 members to make a government particularly to get a 2/3 majority to form the new constitution of the government. At that moment I needed these trustworthy persons who lost in the election to be named as members of parliament via the national list."
