Mahela's walk from Point Pedro to Dondra raises Rs 4000 lakhs

The walk that was organized by the Trail meritorious institution from Point Pedro to Dondra was concluded the other day.This walk was lead by former Sri Lankan cricket captain Mahela Jayawardena and several other renowned cricketers.The walk was named as "Tharanaya".

The motive of this exercise was to raise funds to build a cancer hospital in the vicinity of the

Karapitiya Teaching hospital.It is learnt that statistics pertaining to the money collected have been released to the media.

The distance of the entire walk was 670 kilometers.It is reported that 31 of the organizers had walked the entire distance.With those who had joined on the way 75000 persond had participated in the walk.What was collected from people who were on the side of the roads had been RS 430 lakhs.With the contributions made by other donors the amount is around Rs 4000 lakhs which Rs 40 million.To construct the Karapitiya cancer hospital the estimated cost is Rs 7500 lakhs.

The ministry of health has agreed to bear the balance funds.This has been officially announced by the ministerial authorities.
