For the fisher folk a new international radio channel  commenced

On the 21st instant in parallel to the world fisheries day a new FM radio channel called fisheries radio channel has been inaugurated.The  officials of the Fisheries aquatic resource development ministry and Lanka fisheries harbour corporation.The minister of fisheries and aquatic resources Mahinda Amaraweera had opened this

new new radio channel.

This FM radio channel would benefit 20 ports and in the future it would cover the entire island Via this channel the fishermen could obtain all weather forecasts,natural disaster information. about fishing laws,musical programmes are scheduled .

It is reported that in the year 1990 a similar radio programme had been launched but had become inactive and non functional.
