In future, several changes are to be effected with regard to working hours in the government and private sector, government sources reveal. The condition that the private sector is to work half day on Saturdays in most establishments in the private sector, which rule is presently in force where holidays are concerned are to undergo changes with government mediation. It is hoped to make a change in this connection by granting both
Saturday and Sunday as holidays after acquiring their manpower for 45 hours per week on week days. In the process some amendments to be effected in respect of government working hours too were subjected to discussion during the past few days.

It has been proposed to grant a flexible working hour schedule for commencement of reporting to duty be effected because of problems that have cropped up with regard to the time of starting work in government offices as a result of severe traffic congestion seen during morning hours. As such, government servants are given the option of reporting to office at any time before 10 in the morning and the employer who reports for duty at the maximum hour of 10 is to complete his daily duties of 8 working hours by remaining back until 6 in the evening, which then is the suggestion in this respect. Whatever it is, as this methodology  of service coverage does not apply in a practical sense to some official services as such, conditions in relation to this are to be once more considered, it is reported. in any case it is the aim of the government to obtain a maximum service or duties of 40 hours per week from government servants.

Apart from this, it is expected to extend the minimum period of service of employees under the contract scheme from 6 months to 1 year which is among amendments to be enforced. A circular is to be issued for employees attached to security, cleaning, restaurants and transport sectors for imposing limitations on the number of employees to be recruited from next year, it is reported.
