In future GCE ( O level) is not a criterion for Advanced Level; Minister Akila
Hitherto the GCE Ordinary Level examination was held as a border examination to sit for the GCE Advanced Level examination. It is reported that in Sri Lanka just because the GCE Ordinary Level mathematics was not passed opportunity is
not afforded to sit for the GCE Advanced Level examination. Thereby a large number of students percentage wise culminate their higher education after sitting the GCE Ordinary Level examination.
On the other hand many students in rural areas skip the GCE Advanced Level citing financial constraints.Hereafter the Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has quipped that students will not be allowed to leave after sitting the GCE Ordinary Level examination,.All students would be getting the option of selecting the syllabus of their preference and sit for the GCE Advanced Level examination.This decision has been taken by the education ministry.
By year 2018 all students to continue their education up to year 13 by modernization of the current syllabuses would be formulated with a view to find suitable employment in their selected fields..
