Australia breaks Sri Lanka highest T/20 total, inflicting a huge defeat by 85 runs

In the first T/20 international between the touring Australian team and Sri Lanka played today at the Pallekelle International cricket stadium Sri Lanka were inflicted with a huge 85 run defeat in front of a
record crowd of nearly 24,000 spectators.

In the process of beating Sri lanka convincingly Australia posted the highest ever T /20 total of 263 runs for the loss of only three wickets which beat the highest total of 260 runs registered by Sri Lanka against Kenya.

This  recording  breaking total was achieved  perhaps as a joke of fate. The inning was opened by Glenn Maxwell who had been out of form and had been dropped from the regular One Day team of Australia.Maxwell plundered the Sri Lankan bowlers to all parts of the field to be unbeaten on 145 runs compiled in only 65 balls. His inning of 145 not out was the second highest individual score made in any T/ 20 encounter in the history of the game. The record highest T/20 score is held also by the Australian Aaron Finch a member of this tour party who had made 156 runs.

The Australian team made 263 runs for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs.Sri Lanka in reply could amass only 178 runs for the loss of nine wickets. The loss was by 85 runs which is a huge margin for a T /20 encounter.
