Sri Lanka defeats Australia for the second time
Sri Lanka defeats Australia in the 2nd Test in Galle by 229 runs
The number one ranked Test nation Australia by the ICC in June had been defeated by the low ranked Sri Lanka when they were humbled by 229 runs at
the Galle International cricket stadium with over 2 ½ days to spare.
In the Test rankings Sri Lanka occupied No 7 position. With this win Sri Lanka won the Warne/Muralidharan trophy in the three Test match series.
In the second innings Australia were set a massive target of 412 runs to win in just over three days. But they folded up for just 183 runs unable to cope the spinning duo Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera who captured three and six wickets respectively.
Dilruwan Perera had a match haul of ten wickets having captured 4 and 6 wickets in the two innings. This was his 11th Test and with this 10 wicket hall was the fastest Sri Lanka bowler to have captured 50 Test wickets. Before this feat it was Ajantha Mendis who held the record by participating in 12 Tests. Rangana Herath also contributed to this victory when he captured six wickets in the two innings including a hat trick in the first innings which was only the second time such a feat had been achieved by a Sri Lankan after Nuwan Zoyza had achieved it against Zimbabwe.
