It would be Sri Lanka Police after the 150th Anniversary
The official name of the Sri Lanka police service in parallel to the 150th anniversary celebrations would be made officially as "Sri Lanka Police".This change has received the cabinet approval.This proposal has been made by
the Minister of Law & Oder and southern development Minister Sagala Ratnayake to which the cabinet approval has been given.This has been disclosed by the government information department. at a media briefing.
This proposal had been in this manner.Over the period of time Sri Lanka Police had been called by different names at periods of time.
In 1865 under the police ordinance No 16 the police department was formed and at phases has been called by similar names It had been called as the Police task force and in 1945 as the Police department had been known and in the year 1972 had been called as the Sri Lanka Police service.
The Sri Lanka Police is to celebrate 150 years in existence this year.It has been proposed to name it in an more appropriate manner. In this context the proposal to name as the Sri Lanka Police by the Minister of Law & Order and southern development Minister Sagala Ratnayake which had been given the green light by the cabinet..
